On A Mission
Founded by dynamic duo Stefania Pellegrino and Mark O’Sullivan, Purely is on a mission to save the world from boring snacks and spread the love for the awesome power of the plantain.
After years exploring South America, we fell in love with both plantains and the region of Ecuador from which we source and produce our plantain crisps.
We lost our heart to South America and loved everything about it - the vibrant lifestyle, the friendly people, and, of course, the mind-blowing food, an explosion of flavours! Our time in Latin America changed our lives - and way of eating - forever.
Ecuadorian cuisine is delicious, healthy, and packed with flavour and we knew we had to bring it back home to England with us.
The recipe
It’s no surprise that, as an Italian, Stef loves making people happy with food and the Purely range is full of real, delicious ingredients and punchy tastes that takes her right back to her travels with each bite.
Purely crisps have a distinctly international flavour as we’re always looking for new favourite foods from around the world to share with you, starting with the scrumptious plantain chips from beautiful Ecuador.
Plantains are a staple for many people in South America and it made us wonder why they don’t get as much love across the pond considering how delicious and versatile they are, containing 30% less fat than potato crisps.
Once we realised we could turn this glorious food into the ultimate conscious snack while supporting the local economy and providing an income for small farmers, our mission was set. We spent time developing meaningful relationships with local farmers in Portoviejo, Ecuador to sustainably source our plantains and support their community.
After plenty of failed attempts, we perfected our recipe, which boasts no chemicals, no palm oil, no exploitation, just pure love and plantains. Plus a dash of salt. The rest of our recipe is a secret.

We’re a small business, but with a head full of new ideas and taste buds ready to do more exploring, we’re excited to be developing our range with new flavours, new products, and expanding our operation to get the word out about our epic plantain chips.

A passionate brand with a social conscience
People are becoming more conscious of the food they are consuming and we are seeing a trend towards consumers choosing authentic, passionate brands with a social conscience, who produce healthier snacks without compromising on taste.
That is precisely what Purely aims to do, we want to spread the love for the awesome power of plantain, via our sustainably produced plantain chips, while supporting our farmers and their local communities in Ecuador.
Not only are our plantain chips 100% natural and free from gluten, wheat, sugar, additives, dairy, palm oil, and trans fats, but plantain also comes with added health, environmental, and economical benefits.
After meeting and forming a fantastic partnership with local farmers in Portoviejo, Ecuador, we decided, early on, to keep the production of our plantain chips local too, helping to support the local economy and provide employment to the local area.
We also discovered and fell in love with a local orphanage, Casa Hogar de Belen, which provides a safe haven for local Ecuadorian children who’ve suffered severe trauma. We’ve made a dedication to donate a portion of our profits from our Plantain Chips to the orphanage so they can continue the amazing work they are doing for the children of Portoviejo.
